This morning Toshiba (leader of the HD-DVD camp) announced their exit
of market, thus ending the protracted format war over what should
supersede the DVD. The Blu-ray Disc Association (Sony, Panasonic,
Pioneer, Philips, Thomson, LG Electronics, Hitachi, Sharp, and Samsung) has won.
The adoption of new format will now
begin in earnest, both in entertainment and IT sectors.
Per FCC laws, on Feb 17, 2009 (a year from today), all analog TV
broadcast in the US will cease.
If you have old TV sets that you intend to use, a signal converter
and a new antenna would be required. You're on your own with the
new antenna, but the government offers a $40 coupon to help
offset the cost of signal converter. It's first come first serve, and
