2-Phased Installation

This is a formalization
of previous notes, illustrating the process of system deployment. The
steps during phase 2 are of particular interest to clients.
It shows you what to expect and where/when your involvement might be
required.
Phase 1 install, in-shop at Bravo:
- hardware diagnostics
- prep HD: MBR, hide all existing partitions (to not interfere
w/ drive letter scheme)
- install slipstreamed o.s.
- configure RDP & telnet; test remote admin
- install devices drivers
- minimal trimming
- product activation (for OEM & retail versions, not req. for
corporate licenses)
- test fresh boot
- interim ghost
- create/unhide AUXI
- transfer i386 + SP2-CAB (for XP/W2K only)
- apply patches
- install host-based firewall + custom rules
- install SAV/SEP & update (if unmanaged, otherwise perform
during phase 2)
- install custom office + patches (if unmanaged, otherwise
phase 2 deployment)
- product activation (for all 2007 editions, and 2003 OEM &
retail versions)
- install fox-it, jpeg2000 + js upg
- major trimming
- fallback ghost
- Bravo custom tools
- Bravo lib
- install ImgBurn, test burns
- optional (klite, AIM-LT)
- phase 1 inventory & documentation (belarc, cpuz, etc.)
- final clean-up
- as-released ghost
- BIRD
- burn-in

After Pick-up/Delivery of System:
physically connect it

login as to your user account
confirm Internet
connection is live by visiting a web sitenotify me to

before proceeding to use the station |
Phase 2 install, after physical hook-up to your network:
- outbound Internet test from workstation
- program gateway router, perimeter firewall filters, NAT redirects
- adjust TCP/IP settings as needed
- add CAL to server (if applicable)
- join domain (if applicable)
- Exchange Server and mailbox setup (if applicable)
- POP email setup (if applicable)
- SAV/SEP server-based deployment to workstation (for managed
sites)
- setup server data & other shares (including "portals" to
workstations)
- configure My Documents
- install network printers
- install local printers
- install site-specific network-based apps (administrative
install/deployment)
- customize network-wide patch management system
- setup/adjust backup schemes and jobs
- phase 2 inventory & documentation (belarc, cpuz, etc.)
- final ghost, and replicate to ghost image repository
- schedule follow-up and review
